An oast house or hop kiln is a building designed for kilning (drying) hops as part of the beer brewing process. They can be found in most hop-growing (and former hop-growing) areas of Kent and East Sussex and are often good examples of vernacular architecture.
Having been an established construction business for 37 years, Ian Saunders of Isaac Rose Properties Ltd was no stranger to a complex renovation such as this and therefore set about the development which included a total replacement of the original windows at the striking former Oast House in Yalding, a charming village in the Borough of Maidstone, Kent.
Parker Joinery were the first choice for the developer and building contractor and the windows chosen consisted of Bereco Traditional Flush windows and Traditional Flush French Doors. The ideal choice for such a characterful building, each window was supplied with 16mm lambs tongue bar design and decorative Monkey Tail handles in antique black. The development proved to be quite complex as the existing arched head windows were not true arches. Always willing to rise to the challenge, Parker Joinery were able to provide bespoke fixtures which complement and enhance the architecture. Each arched head window was designed to sit perfectly within the elegant brickwork arches to achieve a flawless finish. Ian Saunders, who has a keen eye for detail and wanted to make sure it looked perfect, was delighted with the outcome.
Ian Saunders’ construction business was set up originally to take on building and development projects. He has since developed the company and is able to take on any project from a driveway to an extension to a new home and employs only the best skilled workers from a network of trades and reputable suppliers like ourselves in order to be able to live up to the company’s hard earned reputation.
Whether you’re a homeowner working on a renovation project for your home, an architect looking for specific windows and doors, or a trade professional building new homes and properties, we offer a tailored service to help you budget, design, and order bespoke timber windows and doors.
